Visit Jungle beach

Tourists looking for a less crowded beach may want to head to the Jungle beach which is located on the route opposite to Unawatuna. A small one in size, the beach is surrounded by jungle from all sides. The road to this beach is adventurous and tricky with uneven trails and proves to be a long one if covered on foot.

Visit Japanese Peace Pagoda

At the west end of the beach, there are some rocks and stairs that lead up to a small hill with a pagoda and a big Buddha statue. It’s a nice little walk with a beautiful view overlooking the beach.

Visit Galle fort

Considered as one of the most interesting attractions in Unawatuna, this fort is a unique one that remains distinct from other tourist destinations. Instead of the local flavour, one will find Portuguese, Dutch and British influence in the construction style of the fort.

Visit Yatagala temple

A sacred site wrapped in serenity, the Yatagala Temple (or Yatagala Rock Cave Temple) offers a rewarding insight into the island’s Buddhist heritage. This ancient rock temple dates back more than 2,000 years and was built during the time King Devanampiya Tissa ruled the Kingdom of Anuradhapura. Only around four kilometres from Unawatuna, the Yatagala Temple is one of the most beautiful places in Galle and is well worth exploring.
